The Barb Shop
The Barb Shop brings a fresh point of view to the neighborhood barbershop - colorful, nostalgic, and full of personality while still designed around the practical rhythms of a working shop. We transformed an existing 830-square-foot Bernal Heights storefront into a highly detailed space that pairs classic barbershop cues with playful materials, bold color, and unexpected moments throughout.
The comprehensive tenant improvement touched practically every part of the space, from interior reconfiguration and accessibility upgrades to new plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. Warm wood paneling, checkerboard flooring, globe lighting, custom counters, mirrors, tile, wallcoverings, and rich red and orange accents come together to give the shop its distinctive character. Behind the details, the build-out also incorporated hair-washing stations, an upgraded restroom, and new storefront elements.
The result is a space that feels both familiar and completely its own - a modern neighborhood gathering place with the warmth of an old-school barbershop and a playful identity built into every corner.
